My baby boy graduated from high school last week and we are going to drive cross country to celebrate.
We leave early tomorrow morning, which is why I am up at 12:15 am writing this blog. Yes, I should be asleep. Yes, I shouldn’t have had 57 caffeinated drinks at dinner. Yes, I’m going to be exhausted in the morning!
The trip has been in the works for most of the year but some major plans changed tonight. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
My dad asked me for my itinerary earlier today and I promised to get one to him, but nothing is set in stone. That’s the way we planned it, actually. It’s going to change as we travel and we are leaning into that.
Loose plans as of now:
Day 1 - drive from Pittsburgh to Georgia, hopefully see some family members
Day 2 - drive from Georgia to Mississippi with stops in Montgomery, Selma and Philadelphia, MS - our civil rights history tour day.
Day 3 - drive from Mississippi to New Orleans (Bourbon Street and Beignets!) to Houston where we plan to stay with family a few days
Day 4 - family time in Houston
Day 5 - visit NASA in Houston
Day 6 - go to the beach in Galveston
Day 7 - the kid’s 18th birthday! Drive from Houston to Waco to Albuquerque NM
Day 8 - drive from Abq to Phoenix to see more family
Day 9 - family time in Az
Day 10 - drive to Grand Canyon, Four Corners, head into Utah towards home
Day 11 - Colorado, Kansas?
Day 12 - Missouri?
Day 13 - Ohio and home again…
We’ll see how this goes. Can’t wait!!!
